UCO's Center for Neuroeducation and Embodied Learning (CNEL) invites you to explore how the science of learning can transform higher education. This microcredential introduces key insights from neuroscience, cognitive psychology, and educational research—organized around five foundational Pillars of NeuroEducation and Embodided Learning for Higher Education.

The 5 Pillars serve as a bridge between theory and application. They distill years of interdisciplinary research into a clear, actionable framework designed specifically for higher education. Each pillar highlights evidence-based practices that enhance memory, motivation, engagement, feedback, and belonging—all essential for helping students grow as evolving professionals prepared to excel in complex, dynamic environments.

This self-paced micro-credential gives you the tools to:

  • Design learning that aligns with how the brain learns best
  • Foster curiosity, resilience, and reflection in your students
  • Create environments that balance challenge, relevance, and emotional safety
  • Integrate embodied and multimodal approaches that connect mind and body in learning

This course is designed to be practical, flexible, and immediately applicable.

Each pillar includes:

  • a short explanation of what the pillar means
  • why it matters for student learning
  • practical strategies you can use right away
  • examples from real higher-education courses
  • small reflection prompts to help you personalize the ideas

You can complete the course linearly or skip directly to the areas most relevant to your teaching.

This course also provides the opportunity to earn a micro-credential digital badge through UCO by completing the lessons and applying the pillars to your own teaching.

Micro-credentials demonstrate your knowledge, skills and abilities and create a more complete picture of your capabilities. You can earn a micro-credential through the completion of a course, workshop, internship, or other learning experience. Once it has been verified that you performed satisfactorily to earn the micro-credential, you will be issued a micro-credential digital badge.

Our digital badges earned are issued via Credly. Visit UCO's Credly page to view more micro-credential opportunities and learn more about digital badging.

The mission of the Center for Neuroeducation and Embodied Learning (CNEL) at the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) is to improve the well-being of individuals in society by exploring and applying neuroscience to enhance learning, learning environments, and instructional and professional development. This interdisciplinary process is designed to aid all faculty and students as we seek to fulfill the university's Mission.

  • We translate principles of neuroscience into practical applications for learning environments and workspaces.
  • We bust neuromyths that are still practiced.
  • We offer research support to examine the impact of these strategies and apply brain research to bridge the gap that facilitators and learners may encounter in their learning journeys.
