This exciting new offering allows non-UCO students to participate in and earn a micro-credential for UCO's Climate Justice course. Coursework is adapted from and in conversation with What If We Get It Right?: Visions of Climate Futures by Dr. Ayana Elizabeth Johnson. 

In pursuit of this credential, you'll engage in interactive conversations, find your personal climate action framework, hear from guest speakers, and create a community-based advocacy plan, focused on climate justice solutions. You'll explore topics ranging from environmental inequities to policy development, sustainable design, and finance's role in ensuring a just future—all while building practical skills for effective climate advocacy. Alyssa L. Provencio, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Political Science and the Director of Downtown Strategy and Community Partnerships for LX Studio at the University of Central Oklahoma. She is a scholar, practitioner, and strategist dedicated to building resilient communities through representation, community-driven solutions, and praxis. In her Director role, Dr. Provencio leads efforts to strengthen UCO’s downtown Oklahoma City presence through community engagement and program development. She facilitates initiatives that connect the university with businesses, nonprofit organizations, and civic leaders to foster collaboration and innovation in higher education and workforce development. She is a national media contributor on inclusive emergency management issues and serves on the Board of Directors for the Oklahoma Center for Community and Justice and the Board of Trustees with Oklahoma Humanities. Dr. Provencio’s teaching and research focuses on under-resourced populations and citizen empowerment in emergency management, as well as faculty development and mentorship in higher education.

Micro-credentials demonstrate your knowledge, skills and abilities and create a more complete picture of your capabilities. You can earn a micro-credential through the completion of a course, workshop, internship, or other learning experience. Once it has been verified that you performed satisfactorily to earn the micro-credential, you will be issued a micro-credential digital badge.

The Climate Advocate micro-credential is earned by participants who receive a satisfactory grade on the final reflection paper for the course. The micro-credential represents the earner’s demonstrated practical engagement with climate change work. Earners have gained critical knowledge to deepen their climate consciousness and committed to furthering climate justice.
