This course addresses the unique challenges of building trust and maintaining accountability in distributed team environments. Participants learn three strategic approaches that replace the informal interactions naturally occurring in co-located workplaces: Structured Informal Connection (deliberate opportunities for non-work relationship building), Transparent Work Practices (making progress visible through shared tools and async updates), and Explicit Expectations and Agreements (documenting norms that are assumed in office settings). The course emphasizes that remote leadership requires intentional design rather than replicating office practices. By the end of the session, participants will be able to identify three specific strategies to build trust and accountability within remote teams, with concrete implementation plans for their own team context.

Micro-credentials demonstrate your knowledge, skills and abilities and create a more complete picture of your capabilities. You can earn a micro-credential through the completion of a course, workshop, internship, or other learning experience. Once it has been verified that you performed satisfactorily to earn the micro-credential, you will be issued a micro-credential digital badge.

The Leading Remote Teams badge recognizes the earner’s proficiency with a range of skills, from differentiating between types of remote teams and their unique challenges to developing effective communication strategies and establishing practical policies for remote work. The badge is earned through participation in the Leading Remote Teams workshop and adopting a remote team leadership strategy in practice.

Our digital badges earned are issued via Credly. Visit UCO's Credly page to view more micro-credential opportunities and learn more about digital badging.
